Eating out in La Clusaz
Eating out in La Clusaz is an absolute delight…
Amongst many mouthwatering dishes (that really suit most budgets) you can find a number of traditional local foods such as; Raclette, Fondue Savoyard and Tartiflette (a local cheese and bacon dish) all of which are divine.
Wednesday evening is ‘chalet day off’ for the staff, but this certainly doesn’t mean you will be going hungry. With our enduring commitment to you, we have sacrificed ourselves and gone out to try nearly every restaurant in town. Here you will find our recommendations …
On the Piste/near Ski Chalet le Panoramic
La Ferme
Wonderful little authentic Savoyarde restaurant directly across the road from Le Panoramic, also on the piste which is very convenient for when you are on the move.
Our guests love eating here. The food ranges from pizzas cooked in the open oven, great steaks, salads and of course Raclette, Fondue and Braserrade (indoor barbecue). No complaints!
Lunch is served till late and this is quite often a handy spot for our guests on the Saturday or why not eat here on the Wednesday night if you don’t feel like venturing too far?!
Le Vieux Chalet
This is an utterly amazing farmhouse style restaurant, a snowballs through from Panoramic. Here you can have gourmet cuisine at its best, in fact Michelin star rated cuisine! ~ Big recommendation: Why not treat yourself on chalet night off, grab some snowshoes from the ski room and have a saunter up to this truly superb restaurant.
Le Bercail
Fab, cosy farmhouse restaurant. (On sunny days try the terrace, a great sun trap!)
Ask for ‘Diots in Vin Blanc’ ~ Very very good local sausages poached in cream and white wine, yum! Tartiflette, and grilled meats on the open fire!!
Bercail is accessible by skis and at night by sleigh or snowcat. Utterly unforgettable.
Available only by reservation.
Chez Arthur
Chez Arthur is on the same mountain as panoramic just as you get off the first chair-lift.
This is a great quick stop for families where you can sit outside or in. Self-service at its best. Wonderfully bustling with superior views and very friendly service.
Hearty no nonsense luncheon: Spag bol, chips, salads. You can’t go wrong.
If you’re just on a pit stop you have to try the ski-up crepe bar when you can eat a sweet or savoury crepe and have a drink on the go!
Relais de l’Aiguille
This is a fabulous restaurant with its head in the clouds, sporting a huge sun~deck, with one of the best views in the Aravis.
Here you can have self-service lunch or the whole works ~ Not cheap but is well worth it for a special treat! We loved it.
The food comes served on wooden boards and the speciality is “Cote du Boeuf” ~ Rib of beef cooked on an open fire.
If you are out late in the day why not pop in here for Eggy Bread and a hot toddy at 4.30 and then ski back to the chalet once the lifts have stopped!
Restaurants in the village
L’outa
L’outa is great for all the family. This is the only restaurant where you can eat just about anything at any time of day ~ Pizza’s, pasta’s, steaks, salad’s, local specialities, you name it you can eat it here and the quality is always excellent.
Le Scerie
Staff favourite! ~ Fabulous converted wood mill in the centre of town. A great place for a romantic meal, quite expensive but lovely ambiance, great food and an open fire. Try the duck served with gratin.
Ugo’s
A small fun restaurant ~ great for families which serves more cosmopolitan food i.e. not just the local stuff! ~ A cool place to stop at for a morning coffee too!
L’arbe
Another great place! This is the spot for genuine mountain fodder; local specialities are the order of the day and in big portions!! All of the guests that ate here last season really liked it.
An extra recommendation is for you to enjoy a pre-dinner drink in the bar opposite ~ Le Bachal
Bars
Of course La Clusaz has a diverse selection of excellent bars, and as there are no bad apples we’re going to leave you to simply wander down the romantic streets of the village, find a welcoming door and pop in for excellent ambience, great wines and fine beers… bon apres ski!!
Smaller places to visit!
Some of the best places to eat in La Clusaz are the little ‘boulangeries’ which serve a wonderful variety of pastries, often still warm from the oven as all products are always cooked on the premises!
For a slightly more meaty treat visit La Maison du Jambon (the house of ham) which frankly has to be seen to be believed, needless to say, this is not for vegetarians, the meats are delicious local produce prepared in traditional fashion.
People with a sweet tooth will find a home in the “Chocolats Morand” a beautifully kept chocolate shop. Another shop in the center serves the most delicious hot chocolate ~ perfect for a cold morning Christmas shopping!
Still hungry? Why not have a look at our cuisine here!
